whats the good and cheap place to stay in Koh Samui island, Thailand?

I'm traveling there on 17th June, coming back 2nd July. I've got hotel booked as a part of the deal, but only for first 3 days. Looking for more info on beach houses perhaps or similar. Thanks in advance.
whats the good and cheap place to stay in Koh Samui island, Thailand?
Hi, what I ca offer is that Samui is an island. You can look around for other accommodation during the first 3 days. They should be within easy reach from where you will be.
The other is to go to www.asiarooms.com and check out the offers available on the net. As the price will vary during different period, best to check for yourself and book accordingly.
There are many good, luxury hotels and resorts on Samui. But there be promotions that may make it worthwhile to try them too. Happy searching and stay.

Whats the deal with "Priceline.com"? 'round trip airfare for $109.11?
I know with Priceline, you can name your own price but the main question is will the airline accept it. It's like a bargaining game, you name your price and the airlines will either give it to you or rejected it. When you fill in your own price you can put anything down from $1-$100 but what airline will accept $109.11 for one roundtrip ticket to China?

Whats the customary tip percentage in China?

Whats the customary tip percentage in China?
Zero percent. The iniquitous Western swindle of imposed gratuities is not part of Chinese practice and you will often offend them by offering a tip. However, if the service was really worth something extra you may insist on a gratuity being accepted. Offer it sincerely, while making eye contact. If paper money use both hands. It will then be graciously and gratefully accepted.
Whats the customary tip percentage in China?
There is no tip whatsoever in China - ever.

(some of us give tips to those who seem to really deserve it, but it has to be done under the table)
There is no tip whatsoever in China - ever.

(some of us give tips to those who seem to really deserve it, but it has to be done under the table)
Normally they don't take any. They are busy.As you are a foreigner in a crowed resturant say thank you in local language.(there are different dialects) and see your waitress/waiter running everywhere to tell, you speak chinese. In a lonley place like hotel room they like it,bell boy.Pay in local currency.
it's included in your bills. if i remember correctly, its about 5% or 10%.
    Nothing.

Tipping is unusual in China. Most Chinese service workers will refuse to take a tip.

In Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen, where more foreigners tend to visit, the rich American Bozos on expense accounts have corrupted the local population. Some people in those areas now expect tips.

Outside the places mentioned above, tipping is unheard of. Workers in smaller cities will not take a tip, even if you insist, they will get the money back to you somehow.

IN CHINA, CHINESE PEOPLE DO NOT TIP

    ONLY DUMB FOREIGN VISITORS DO

Hmm this is a tough question to find a good answer for. You can get some relatively cheap airfare rates depending on your depature location (and date of course). If your leaving from LA or NY, you'll definitely get a cheaper rate, but if that's not the case your best off going with one of the travel sites like expedia or travelocity. I'm in Oita, Japan right now courtesy of Expedia.
Off-season travel is always a good option because rates tend to drop considerably. Or if you are inclined to work in Japan, you might be able to find a company that would pay for you to go?
I got relatively cheap tickets on yahoo travel last spring ($700 round trip) from New York to Osaka. Select the 'my dates are flexible option' and you should find good rates (need to do this about 3 months in advance).

?I don't know about the BEST hostel, but one good and reasonable hostel is The Tokyo International in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

    Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo

It's in a good location! They even speak English, very helpful. You can get breakfast for 400 yen and dinner for 800 yen, not bad. The hostel price is 3500 yen, again not bad especially for Shinjuku. It's a minute walk from the station, that's great! Please note: they do close from 12/29-1/3 "This YH is in the center of Tokyo and easy access to sightseeing spots in and around Tokyo. The room is a single sex dormitory style, however, there are rooms for family and group. The YH commands a superb view from each room and especially a night view is must to see. Guests can eat salad as much as they like for supper. There are many international guests and therefore it is ideal for the place of an international exchange." (Make sure to check out what all the symbols mean. They have lots to offer!)

Have a wife 30 miles from Bagiuo (150 miles north of Manilla) don't want to rent a car (expensive), but foreigns tend to attract the wrong sort of attention. As there a better way?
whats the best (and safest) way to travel around the Philippines?
transportation ranges from the smallest motorcycle ride to jumbo jets(cheapest to the most expensive). renting a car will cost you more, try the most common way of travelling in the philippines, commuting, meaning ride a jeep or bus from one area to another, choose from air-con to ordinary fare, prices differ. it's cheaper, you just have to pay exact amount, this is a bit exhausting if your aiming for longer trips but fun if your a person who enjoys window seats, there's a lot of places to see. be sure to have a map for extra-direction, or better yet find a nice pinoy to help you around on places to go and would be glad to attend to your simple travelling/touring needs.

Go to an onsen? To be honest, I'd suggest you start visiting the near by cities and their attractions too. Just hop on one of the numerous trains and Go! See! Enjoy! Wish I could have been more help.?

Basically, there are not so many things to do there at Oami. I would be bored if I lived there for a long time.

The best way to find another pastime in Japan is to move to urban areas. Tokyo is a good choice, I think. You can find a lot of thing to do and have a fun in Tokyo.

But if it's difficult for you to move, what about keeping reading or watching movies?

You can buy as many English books as you want at amazon.co.jp so you can keep reading. Or you can find DVDs on the Internet.

What's the weather/climate like in Singapore in the month of August?

    what clothes are weather appropriate?
What's the weather/climate like in Singapore in the month of August?
Singapore weather is almost the same all year round. I should know since I live here :P

Anyway, most people can get by in t-shirts and berms/shorts or jeans. Temperature hovers around 30 deg celcius. The main difference in different months is the amount of rainfall and it's seldom cold enough to warrant wearing a jacket.

One thing to take note though, most offices and shopping complexes are air-conditioned to hell so you may need a jacket/sweater if you're coming for work.
What's the weather/climate like in Singapore in the month of August?
    Here.
    Here.
I was in Singapore several years ago from August 8 - 14, and it was hot. Hot hot hot. We spent time near the water, though, and at night it would get quite cool. I'd recommend light layers you can add if the temp drops. I was glad to have a sweater with me when we took an evening bumboat ride. Otherwise, we wore shorts & t-shirts.
Singapore has a typically tropical climate - it's hot and humid all year round. The temperature rarely drops below 20C even at night, and usually climbs to 30C or more during the day. Humidity tends to hover around the 90% mark. At certain times of the year, it may rain every day but rarely all day. Singapore is at its wettest from Nov. to Jan.
There is not a big difference in temperature in Singapore duringg the whole year, it is very humid there. However, it is more sunnier durin Summer period, while in the period of November-January is gets really rainy. If you dine in a nice restaurant, usually it will be included in the bill of 10% of total charge. Then you usually will not need to leave tips, maybe $5-10 Hong Kong dollars. If you dine in a regular restaurant, there will be no services charge and you do not need to leave any tips on the table.

What's the time diference between San Francisco and Tokyo?

What's the time diference between San Francisco and Tokyo?
San Francisco is in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone which is 8 hours behind Greenwich Mean Time (GMT -08:00). Tokyo is 9 hours ahead (GMT +9:00).

At any moment in San Francisco it is 17 hours later in Tokyo, or 7 hours earlier the next day. (e.g. I am writing at 5:00 pm PST on Thursday, while it is 10:00 am on Friday in Japan.)
What's the time diference between San Francisco and Tokyo?
    http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
    http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/
    i think seven hours..
The easiest way to tell what time it is in Tokyo if you're in San Fransisco (though you'll have to read the caveat below) is to add five hours to the time in SF and switch from AM to PM or vice-versa. For example, if it's 1 pm in SF, you add five hours to get 6 pm, then switch the pm to am and you have the answer: 6 am.

If you want to go from Tokyo time to SF time, simply subtract five hours and switch the am to pm or vice versa.

Now for the caveat I mentioned before. Japan does not use Daylight Saving Time. So when people in the U.S. set their clocks ahead one hour in April, people in Japan do not. Therefore, during DST, the five hour change gets shortened to four.

What's the nearest open air onsen to Tokyo?

My friend is visiting Tokyo. He doesn't have a lot of money but he wants to go to an onsen outside. Is there one anywhere near Tokyo that's outside?
What's the nearest open air onsen to Tokyo?
?i would suggest he go to the "Great Edo Hot Springs Story" complex which is located in Tokyo's Odaiba waterfront area, which has over the past several years developed into a fashion and shopping hub. Arriving guests remove their shoes and, after paying the entry fee, are directed to a selection of kimonos and colorful sashes. After choosing one, and putting it on in a locker room, guests drift out into what looks like an 18th-century remnant of old Edo — as the samurai called Tokyo — and can either eat, do a little shopping or head for the baths.

Unlike the old Japanese custom, men and women don't go in together here.

Bathers first take a shower, in order to get clean before entering the communal bath water. There are then several bathing choices — indoors and outdoors, with bubbles or without, hot or very hot, shallow or deep.

I've been here a few times and enjoyed it although I really love the traditional hot springs in Nasu Kogen, Hakone. This is in Tokyo and easy to get to. Also your friend will enjoy everything Odaiba has to offer. Hope he has a great time in Japn ?

i would presume you will travelling along the north-south expressway, it is along the west coast from singapore to thailand. Then the wind will come from west, the center part of malaysia is mountains, so the wind wont come from east.

there is a part of the expressway you need to precaution, which is from the state Malacca to the state Seremban of area, because of that area of the expressway is cut through certain moutains and it is close to the coast, so when the strong wind comes it will form some "twister effect" and will affect those hi speed of "light weight vehicle" (most of our malaysian cars :>). when you travel on that area, you will found the warning sign along the area, so you will know when you get in. wish you all the best :>

The hostel price is 3500 yen, again not bad especially for Shinjuku. It's a minute walk from the station, that's great! Girl, even if I'm Pinay too, I still think that there could be no "best" in Asia. Each country is so different and so culturally rich and so filled with so many activities and adventures. I think that Asia is the best continent, though.
I would say South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. They all have stable governments and are safe. Also, they're all rich.
Of course IRAN ,unfortunately anybody in other country don't knows anything about Iran and it's cultures,I can't explain this country you should go and see!!

whats the best (and safest) way to travel around the Philippines?

WHate are somethings I can do in Chiba, Japan.?

I live in a town near Chiba called Oami, I am starting to run out fo things to do. Any advice?
WHate are somethings I can do in Chiba, Japan.?
?well, i assume you've been to Disneyland, right? Have you gone to the Chiba City Museum of art? How about visiting a farm in Chiba-MOTHER BOKU-JO? How about going to the COSTCO in Makuhari? Go to an onsen? To be honest, I'd suggest you start visiting the near by cities and their attractions too. Just hop on one of the numerous trains and Go! See! Enjoy! Wish I could have been more help.?
WHate are somethings I can do in Chiba, Japan.?

  • Whats the deal with "Priceline.com"? 'round trip airfare for $109.11?
